Oakland, CA (PRWEB) May 20, 2013

May 25, 2013Oakland Zoo presents a day to celebrate and honor elephants. Oakland Zoo is home to four African elephants named Donna, Lisa, MDunda, and Osh. Celebrating Elephants is a day the Zoo strives to spread awareness about elephants in captivity and in the wild. This annual event will take place from 10:00am to 3:00pm and will feature hands on activities, a research camp, learning stations, and elephant barn tours. It is an opportunity for guests to learn fascinating facts about these enormous animals and find out what elephants in the wild are facing right now with poaching and the ivory trade.

Elephant barn tours, which are $ 5 per person, will take guests behind-the-scenes to see an elephant up-close and witness how these massive-sized animals are cared for by zookeepers. The tour will also include an inside look at Oshs barn (male elephant); it was specially designed to accommodate his growing build. The posh pad is complete with heating, high ceilings, and bedding to support his 12,000+ pound body.

Family friendly activities include a mock research camp which will give guests the opportunity to use binoculars and participate in observing elephant behaviors. They can also learn how to tell Oakland Zoos four elephants apart. In the Wayne and Gladys Valley Childrens Zoo, visitors are invited to watch Circus Finelli, an animal free circus performance with comedy, acrobatics, juggling, dance, and live music. Families will also find engaging elephant stations, such as, touching gigantic pachyderm bones, holding an eleven-pound tooth, and stepping into an elephant-sized footprint.

Celebrating Elephants Day is fun-filled day designed for guests to enjoy and learn about elephants, while helping to save elephants in the wild. For the last nineteen years, Oakland Zoo has been a proud supporter and advocator for protecting elephants in Africa, said Colleen Kinzley, Director of Animal Care, Conservation, and Research at Oakland Zoo. Our goal is for guests to be awed by these majestic animals and aware of what is happening to them in the ivory trade.

For more information about Celebrating Elephants, please call 510-632-9525 or visit the zoo website at http://www.oaklandzoo.org. All proceeds from the elephant barn tours at Celebrating Elephants will be donated to the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, which helps ensure the long-term conservation and welfare of Africas elephants through scientific research, training, community outreach, public awareness and advocacy. World renowned Dr. Cynthia Moss started the now famous Amboseli Elephant Research Project in Kenya more than thirty years ago. For more details, please go to http://www.oaklandzoo.org/Amboseli_Trust.php.

Rada is a puppy from our first litter.

She’s a very sweet and loving girl. She has always been eager to please and will learn what you want to teach her very quickly.

She loves her people, but is more shy around new people. She likes to sleep on the bed with her people and you’re likely to have her cleaning your hands, arms, face… ok, I admit.. just about any bare skin, she’ll happily lick clean for you. And of course, she’ll be happy to share the couch, or your favorite chair with you.

Her birthday is November 20, 2009. She has not been fixed (has had 1 heat and no puppies) and will not come with papers. We have her dad with us but her mom has been rehomed to a family of friends.

Gray, ME (PRWEB) March 30, 2013

March 30, 2013

Dale Carson of Maine Bed Bugs and Pest Control can tell you that spring time is a very busy part of the year for Gray, Maine exterminators. From bed bugs to spiders and flies to hornets nests, people are going to be finding all sorts of insects, rodents, and other pests that escaped into the house or shed during the colder winter months and are now starting to become active. There are several signs homeowners can look out for to know whether they are dealing with an infestation or just a random fly or bug wandering through their homes.

One of the key things to look for is trails. If homeowners are seeing lines of insects traveling through or around the outside of the home, they are most likely near a nest. Also, individuals should keep an eye out for flying ants during the early spring months. This is often when ants are selecting a new area for their colony and those ants will typically lose those wings once they have relocated. So, if one sees ants flying around their home or gathered dead inside screens, windows, or sliding doors, there is a good chance the ants are in the home. Often ants, spiders, and other pests will make nests in basements, behind walls, in cabinets and rarely used closets. Insects and rodents want some place that is relatively undisturbed, cool, and dark. If the home are leaking pipes or water damage, those areas are prime real estate for bugs of all sorts as well.

It is important for homeowners to keep this in mind as they go forward with their spring cleaning tasks. Finding a trail, animal droppings, or other signs of pest habitation can be a sign of real trouble and should not just be assumed that the pests will leave on their own or have already left. Specialists in pest control in Maine see the damage that these bugs and rodents can do in a home. This can run anywhere from bringing in germs and bacteria that can cause health issues to chewing on wires, biting, and other concerns.

If someone thinks that they may have an insect or rodent problem, calling on professional pest control in Maine is the best response. In trying to get rid of the pests on their own, many homeowners expose themselves to danger either from a poisonous bite or from the chemicals they choose to use to deal with the critters. An exterminator can come and fully inspect the home for any potential problems and advise what the best course of action is.

New York, NY (PRWEB) April 22, 2013

This morning, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg; artist Ugo Rondinone; Tishman Speyer Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer Jerry Speyer; Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund Nicholas Baume; and President of Nespresso USA Frederic Levy opened New York Citys newest outdoor art exhibition, Ugo Rondinone: Human Nature. For seven weeks this spring, nine 16- to 20-foottall, human-shaped stone figures by the Swiss-born, New York-based artist Ugo Rondinone, will transform Rockefeller Center, inhabiting the plaza between 49th and 50th Streets as if transported from another time. The work, Human Nature, will be free to the public and is on view April 23 through June 7, 2013. Presented by Nespresso, the exhibition is organized by Public Art Fund and Tishman Speyer.

“Rockefeller Center plaza is one of the worlds most treasured public spaces, and one reason for that has been the Public Art Funds commitment, over the past several years, to present some of the worlds most exciting and memorable public art there,” said Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. “This exciting exhibition is sure to provoke a lot of thoughtand enable New Yorkers and visitors to see a cherished landmark with new eyes, all thanks to the Public Art Fund.”

Human Nature is a stark contrast to its highly developed architectural surroundings in Midtown Manhattan. The irregular natural surfaces of the stone are left bare, while the human figureperhaps the original artistic subjectis represented as a simple yet imposing composition, defined by its towering legs, massive torso, and boulder-like head. Archaic and enduring forms, these colossal figures will invite visitors to wander amongst their legs and touch their roughhewn surfaces.

We are proud to continue our long-standing tradition of presenting public art at Rockefeller Center with Ugo Rondinones Human Nature, said Tishman Speyer Co-Chief Executive Officers Jerry Speyer and Rob Speyer. Rockefeller Center is New York Citys greatest public venue, a place where timeless architecture and art come together. The work of a brilliantly inventive artist like Ugo Rondinone will add perfectly to the Centers artistic identityparticularly as Human Nature was originally inspired by the very plaza where it will now stand.

Mythic in scale and imagery, visceral in character and impact, Human Nature reconnects the contemporary world with our most ancient origins, said Nicholas Baume, Public Art Fund Director & Chief Curator. Conceived directly for Rockefeller Center, this installation launches an important new body of work for Ugo; were delighted that it will debut on center stage at this iconic New York City location.

The stone figure is the most archetypal representation of the human form; an elemental symbol of the human spirit, connected to the earth yet mythic in the imagination. The image of the figure belongs to nobody, is timeless, and universal, said artist Ugo Rondinone.

As a brand rooted in innovation and design, we are constantly seeking inspiration through art and culture from all over the world, said Frederic Levy, President, Nespresso USA. It is an honor to be the premier sponsor of Ugo Rondinones Human Nature at Rockefeller Center and to be part of an event that so beautifully celebrates artistic expression and shares in our passion to inspire and be inspired.

The figures populate the plaza where the famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is displayed each December, the massive forms of their legs and shoulders forming post-and-lintel structures beneath and among which visitors are able to walk.

To create these nine unique figures, the artist quarried massive bluestone slabs, leaving their surfaces as they were found: heavy and coarse, scored by quartz veins, and marked by wind, weather, and erosion. The stones were then rough-cut into blocks and stacked on top of each other to resemble the most recognizable features of the human form.

For more than 20 years, Rondinone has produced a strikingly diverse body of work that includes trance-inducing mandala paintings, figurative sculptures, large-scale landscape drawings, and immersive multi-channel video installations. In recent years, he has increasingly turned his attention to public projects. His rainbow neon sign sculpture, Hell, Yes!, adorned the fa
